Helping Maltipoo Puppies Become Confident Family Companions
An exceptionally trained Maltipoo puppy is just a few weeks away! Our Maltipoo Dog Training is specifically designed for Maltipoo puppies. Your puppy will learn the commands of Sit • Stay • Come • Heel • Kennel • Okay and No. Your puppy will also be leash trained and kennel trained. Training Begins when your puppy is 8-weeks old and the classes occur in individual half-hour sessions, twice a day, 6 days a week. Each week we provide you with a Weekly Report Card documenting your pup’s ongoing progress in training. At the end of the course your puppy must pass his/her obedience test, which we document by video and make available to you. This video is not only a lot of fun and even at times emotional to watch, it is also helpful to see the interaction between the trainer and pup and how the pup enjoys obeying the commands.

Reward-Based Learning Without Fear or Harsh Punishment
Young puppies learn best when training is clear, calm and rewarding. We avoid intimidation, physical punishment, shouting and methods intended to frighten a puppy into compliance.
Instead, we encourage the behavior we want through praise, small food rewards, toys, affection and access to positive experiences. Unwanted behavior is redirected toward a more appropriate activity whenever possible.
Weekly Maltipoo Obedience Training Updates
To help you understand your puppy’s progress through our obedience training program, we wanted to put together this article with included weekly progress videos. Training a puppy can be a lot of hard work with dedication and consistency being paramount in her learning. But seeing the progress is very rewarding knowing she will be well suited for a new home and make the adjustment much easier. As you scroll below, you can follow Angel through her 5 weeks with us as we teach her the commands included in our training program.
Obedience Training Day 1
Angel has begun her obedience training and has caught on quite well with her first day. As we first began to call Angel by her name and get her focus, she was very distracted at everything around and wasn’t yet aware what we were wanting. As we introduced her to treats, it quickly became very easy to get her to look at us (and the treats) and we were able to go through her first session of training.
Obedience Week 1
After just 12 sessions of training, Angel has learned to be more focused on her commands. She still gets distracted very easily but we quickly call back her attention with treats and verbal commands to continue her training.
Obedience Week 2
At week 2, Angel knew all her commands. She still gets distracted very easily and sometimes is eager to complete a random trick before listening to a command but working with her through the coming weeks will help hone these commands in better.
Obedience Week 3
This is the stage that some puppies would graduate from our basic 3-week obedience training. As for Angel, she is enrolled in our more advanced 5-week training so she will be staying with us a few more weeks, but let’s take a look at how she is doing at 3 weeks so you can see the difference in learning between now and when she graduates two weeks from now
A Helpful Training Routine for a Young Maltipoo
Training does not need to happen in long formal sessions. Small lessons can be included naturally throughout the day.
Morning Potty
Take the puppy to the designated potty area immediately after waking and reward successful elimination.
Meal-Time Learning
Practice a simple sit or brief calm wait before placing the food bowl down.
Short Skill Practice
Spend several minutes practicing the puppy’s name, come, sit or following a person.
Calm Rest
Encourage quiet time in a crate, playpen or comfortable resting area after activity.
Frequently Asked Questions
These answers explain what families can reasonably expect from early Maltipoo obedience training.
At what age do you begin training Maltipoo puppies?
Gentle learning begins as soon as puppies are developmentally ready to interact, follow movement and respond to positive experiences. Formal expectations remain very limited for young puppies.
Will my puppy already know how to sit?
Some puppies may begin understanding the sit cue, while others may still need regular guidance. Performance can change temporarily after entering a new home.
Will the puppy be completely potty trained?
No. Young puppies have limited bladder control and require frequent breaks. We introduce potty routines, but the new family must continue consistent training.
How long should each training session be?
Several short sessions are usually more effective than one long session. Approximately three to five minutes may be enough for a very young puppy.
Are Maltipoos easy to train?
Maltipoos are often intelligent and people-focused, but every puppy is different. Progress depends on temperament, age, consistency, motivation and the clarity of the family’s training.
Can children help with puppy training?
Yes, under adult supervision. Children should use calm voices, gentle movements and the same command words used by adults. They should never chase, frighten or physically punish a puppy.
What rewards should I use?
Very small, soft puppy treats or pieces of the puppy’s regular food can work well. Praise, toys and gentle affection may also be rewarding. Treats should remain small to avoid overfeeding.
