How We Groom Our Young Maltipoo Puppies
We introduce each part of grooming slowly so puppies do not become frightened or overwhelmed.
Short Brushing Sessions
We begin with brief brushing sessions using gentle strokes. We focus on helping the puppy remain calm rather than trying to complete a long grooming session all at once.
Face and Eye Cleaning
We gently wipe moisture and debris from around the eyes and mouth. We avoid pulling dried material directly from the coat and soften it before removal.
Paw and Nail Handling
We touch and hold each paw briefly so puppies become familiar with the handling required for future nail trims and veterinary visits.
Bath Introduction
Puppies are introduced to shallow, comfortably warm water and gentle washing when a bath is needed. We keep the experience calm and avoid spraying water directly into the face.
Gentle Drying
After bathing, we towel-dry the puppy carefully and keep it warm. When introducing a dryer, we begin with low airflow and allow the puppy time to become familiar with the sound.
Coat and Skin Check
Grooming gives us an opportunity to check for tangles, irritation, dryness, unusual bumps, ear concerns or anything that may need veterinary attention.

How We Use It
We wet the coat with comfortably warm water, apply a small amount of shampoo, gently massage the coat and rinse thoroughly so no product remains against the skin.
Brushing Your Maltipoo at Home
Regular brushing prevents small tangles from becoming tight, uncomfortable mats.
Use the Right Tools
A soft slicker brush and a stainless-steel grooming comb are useful for many Maltipoo coats. The brush loosens tangles, while the comb helps check whether the coat is clear down to the skin.
Work in Small Sections
Separate the coat gently and brush a small area at a time. Begin near the ends of the hair and work gradually toward the skin.
Check Mat-Prone Areas
Pay extra attention behind the ears, under the collar or harness, beneath the legs, around the chest, under the tail and around the paws.
Do Not Pull Hard
Hold the hair near the skin while gently working through a small tangle. Stop if the puppy becomes uncomfortable or if a mat is too tight to remove safely.
How to Bathe a Maltipoo Puppy
Bathing should be gentle, calm and followed by thorough rinsing and drying.
Brush Before the Bath
Remove loose tangles before wetting the coat. Water can cause existing knots to tighten and become more difficult to remove.
Use Comfortably Warm Water
Test the water with your hand before placing the puppy in the tub or sink. Avoid very hot or cold water.
Protect the Eyes and Ears
Do not pour water directly over the puppy’s face. Use a soft, damp cloth around the muzzle and eye area, and avoid allowing water to enter the ears.
Rinse Thoroughly
Shampoo left in the coat can contribute to irritation. Continue rinsing until the water runs clear and the coat no longer feels slippery.
Dry the Puppy Completely
Wrap the puppy in a clean towel and gently press moisture from the coat. Keep the puppy warm until fully dry.
Brush After Drying

Eye-Area Care
Use a clean, soft, damp cloth to wipe beneath the eyes. Use a separate clean area of the cloth for each eye and avoid placing products directly inside the eye.
Ear Care
Check the outer ears regularly for odor, redness, discharge or excessive scratching. Only use ear-cleaning products recommended for dogs.
Nail Care
Keep nails short enough for comfortable walking. Trim only a small amount at a time, or have a groomer or veterinarian perform the nail trim.
Dental Care
Introduce a dog toothbrush or finger brush gradually. Use only toothpaste made for dogs, never human toothpaste.
